State and Local Nutrition: Local meals on wheels, food pantries, community meals, etc.

    • Lenoir County Council on Aging Home Delivered Meals
      • For those age 60+ who are homebound, LCCOA can provide eligible individuals 5 meals per week delivered to their homes. The meals are delivered frozen weekly and are easily heated in a microwave oven. Each meal meets one-third of the daily nutrition intake for seniors.

    • Community Meals
      • Those age 60+ not considered home-bound can come to the George T. Skinner Senior Center in Kinston or the Margaret Hewitt Nutrition Site in Pink Hill to enjoy a meal and social interaction with others. Activities, health-related education, crafts, and special programming is offered daily. There is no cost to participate and to eat (consumer contributions are accepted but not required).

    • The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program is a federal program that normally provides a one-time payment in February to vendors on behalf eligible households to assist with heating expenses.
    • Applications are normally accepted during December for households with at least one member age 60 and above or a disabled person receiving services through DAAS.

    • Seniors age 60+ may be eligible to receive assistance with daily living tasks, such as light housekeeping or errands, helping to prevent premature assisted living or nursing home placement. This service does not include any hands-on personal care assistance.

    • This program assists people with minor home repairs and building ramps. Client is responsible for materials; labor and expertise provided by agency free of charge.
  • Inter-Church Outreach (ICOR) - (252) 522-4357
    • Corner of Peyton & McLewean St., Kinston, NC 28501
    • Assists people who find themselves in an emergency or crisis situation and do not qualify for public assistance. Helps with rent, utility bills (electricity, water and natural gas), prescriptions (intended for one-time prescriptions need), limited transportation and also provides food from pantry. Financial assistance limited to $100 per 12-month period. Provides Christian counseling and referrals to other resources to solve the crisis. Applicants must bring: Valid NC picture ID, with Lenoir County address matching the bill's address, and the current bill for which applicant is seeking assistance. Usually, assistance is given until the 10th of the month on late bills.

        • This club is for persons aged 55+ and meets at the Georgia K. Battle Center (401 E Lincoln Street, Kinston, NC 28501). It offers travel, workshops, lunches, and much more. It meets the 3rd Monday of each month at Georgia K. Battle Center. Call Ella Clarke at 252-939-3352 for more information.
      • Kinston Senior Dance Club
        • Adults over 50 meet at the Galaxy of Sports Skating Center (4010 W Vernon Ave., Kinston, NC 28504) every Tuesday from 7 - 10 p.m. with live entertainment. A fee is charged. Please call Melissa McCoy at 252-939-3334 for more information.
      • Mock Athletic Skills Facility Senior Program
        • Lenoir County residents aged 60 and above are entitled to a free membership. The Mock Athletic Skills Facility (314 Park Avenue, Kinston, NC 28501) includes a walking track, treadmills and other cardio and resistance equipment. For more information, contact call us at 252-939-3232.

        • Neuse River Senior Games
          • Games are held annually in late April in New Bern. Participation in these games includes the counties of Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, & Pamlico.

        • Water Aerobics
