Federal Nutrition: How to apply for SNAP and CSFP in state
How to Apply for SNAP in Florida
- SNAP (food assistance) in Florida is administered by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) through the ACCESS Florida system. There is no local DCF storefront for casual walk-ins in most cases — applications are handled online or by phone:
- Online: Apply at myflfamilies.com/services/public-assistance (the ACCESS Florida portal) — available 24/7
- By Phone: Call the DCF customer call center at 1-850-300-4323 (TTY 1-800-955-8771), Mon–Fri 8a-5p
- In Person / Help Applying: Use a community partner agency (listed below) for free help completing the application.
Seniors 60+ may qualify for simplified reporting and larger medical-expense deductions, which can increase benefit amounts. Florida also runs an Elderly Simplified Application Project (ESAP) for households where everyone is 60+ or disabled, making the process easier with less paperwork and longer certification periods.
CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program)
- Florida participates in CSFP, which provides monthly USDA food boxes to low-income seniors 60+. In Manatee County, contact Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee / The Food Bank of Manatee at (941) 747-3663 to find your nearest CSFP distribution site, as it's administered through the regional food bank network (Feeding Tampa Bay / Feeding Florida).
💡 Free application help is available at Turning Points and the Women's Resource Center (see below), or dial 2-1-1 for the Manatee County helpline.
