According to the American Cancer Society, early detection of breast cancer in the localized stage has a 5-year survival rate of 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly self-breast exams, regular clinical breast exams, and mammograms.
What can be some symptoms or signs of breast cancer?
- A change in how the breast or nipple feels
- Nipple tenderness
- Lump or thickening in or near the breast or underarm area
- Change in the skin texture (orange peel texture)
- A change in the breast or nipple appearance
- Change in the size or shape
- Dimpling, swelling, shrinkage, recent asymmetry
- Nipple that turned inward or inverted
- Skin becoming scaly, red, swollen, ridges, pitting
- Any nipple discharge-particularly clear or bloody discharge
