Patient Action: Obtain and use assistive devices as directed.
CC Context: Unsteadiness or needing support while walking are signs of poor balance. If you are unsteady or weak, working with a physical therapist on strength and balance can help. It is very important to use assistive devices such as a cane or walker when you feel unsteady. Don’t take the chance. Always have your assistive device with you. Questions to Ask:
- When do you feel unsteady with walking?
- Do you have a cane or walker?
- Do you always have your cane or walker by your side?
- Have you ever worked with a physical therapist to improve your strength and balance?
