Eating Out And Eating On The Go

When talking about eating a balanced meal or snack, that doesn’t mean this requires you to always be at home and cooking every meal. While studies show eating more home-cooked meals can be beneficial to our health (and budget), life is real, busy, and on the go at times. The great news is that you can apply the principles of balanced eating even when you're on the go, check out these tips below to help you:

  • Keep balanced snacks with you at all times, such as a piece of fruit and a bag of unsalted nuts.

  • Carry a refillable water bottle with you (this is a great tip whether you are in or away from your home!)

  • Take an hour or two at home each week to pre-portion snacks or to-go meals.

  • When dining out, make at least one of your sides a vegetable. Order sauces on the side.

  • Choose grilled over fried meats when ordering at a restaurant/fast food. If you really want that fried meat, keep to non-fried side items (and vice versa).

  • When on a road trip, pack a cooler of food vs stopping at a fast-food restaurant (this is a budget-friendly tip too!).

So, you may be reading this and thinking...this is stuff I have heard or read before. Well, that’s because it works! Balanced eating does not have to be complicated. Oftentimes, small, simple changes do the trick.
