Exercises for Feet

Our feet are the foundation of our entire body. Let’s show them love and support like they do for us. The following are some exercises that can help to strengthen and improve the mobility of your feet.

Exercise 1:

  • Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor and barefoot.

  • Lift your big toe up off the ground as high as you can without lifting your foot or other toes off the floor.

  • Reverse it, push your big toe down, and lift your other toes up.

  • Repeat 10 times.

If you are not able to perform this exercise, consider trying it more consistently. If you can easily do this, you can also try this exercise standing up (just be sure you have good balance to prevent yourself from falling).

Exercise 2: Toe Splay

  • Stay seated with your feet flat on the floor and barefoot.

  • Press your foot and toes into the ground, while pressing down spread out your toes, and bring them back together.

  • Repeat 10 times

Exercise 3:  Toe Curls

  • Toe curls help to build up the flexor muscles of your toes and feet.

  • Sit upright in a chair, lay a towel directly on the floor, and place your right foot flat on the middle of the towel.

  • Curl your toes and try to grasp the towel and pull it towards yourself.

  • Repeat the exercise 5 times then repeat on the other foot.

Exercise 4: Marble Pickup

  • This helps to strengthen the bottom of your feet and toes.

  • Sit in a chair with both feet flat on the floor along with ten marbles and a bowl on the floor. If you do not have marbles, you can perform this exercise with a small towel.

  • Pick up one marble with the toes of your right foot and place it in the bowl.  Repeat with your left foot. If using your towel, perform the same exercise by lifting up the towel with your toes and placing it into the bowl.

  • Repeat until you’ve moved all the marbles into the bowl.

  • Be sure to make sure all the marbles are picked up off the floor before you stand up to help prevent a fall.

As always, remember to consult your provider before starting any new fitness regimen.
