Nectarines

Nectarines originated in China over 2,000 years ago. However, most of the peaches you see today in your supermarket come from California (almost 95% in fact). Unlike peaches, nectarines have a smooth surface and tend to be a bit fleshier. They contain many nutrients such as Vitamin C, B vitamins like B3, potassium, and copper. Copper is important as it helps to keep our skin healthy and strong. Nectarines also contain antioxidants, which help to protect our body against free radical damage that can lead to inflammation and other illnesses. Depending on the region in which you live, nectarines are considered in season roughly between April and October. Nectarines can be safely kept in your freezer for winter months to consume year-round. Simply cut in half or slices, freeze on a tray overnight, and then place in a freezer-safe bag. Nectarines can be added to your morning cereal, as a salad topper, or mix-in with your yogurt, the choices are endless.
