Did you know that there are over 400 different varieties of oranges? Oranges in the USA are a popular food staple. Found commonly in fresh, jarred, or canned form, oranges are most well-known for their vitamin C content. In fact, one orange provides almost 100% of the daily intake recommendation for vitamin C! Oranges are also a good source of potassium, a mineral that supports our blood pressure and muscle function. Oranges are slightly acidic so they can be problematic for some people if they are consumed as the whole fruit. However, many find they can enjoy oranges in the jarred or canned form (after rinsing under water first to remove any extra sugar). Adding oranges to your water or tea is also a great way to enjoy the flavor without the acidity.
